I have a message for you from the universe… My yoga teacher today talked about “the space between” and I’ve been hearing that phrase a lot lately — like the universe is sending me a message. It’s also the title of one of my favorite Dave Matthews Band songs! The space between that my yoga teacher was talking about is the space between our thoughts, the space between stimuli and our reaction or response to them. Those moments when we have a choice. When we can decide what to do next. When we can take a deep breath and shift our negative self talk to positive, loving, compassionate self talk. When we can self soothe ourselves and calm our nervous system so that we can make a thoughtful choice about how to react or respond to someone or something instead of acting impulsively or emotionally in the moment. so that’s my message from the universe today. The word “potential” can be kind of toxic. We often use it when we are being judgmental or trying to express disappointment in someone else. It rarely is a motivator for someone. Assumptions are really challenging. We make a lot of them and they’re often wrong. they convince us not to do things we want to do. They convince us that people are upset at us when they’re not. They convince us why other people are upset with us or what the other people want and it’s not true. If something really matters, find out what the reality is. Ask the people involved. If it doesn’t matter, move on. Here are three things. I wish somebody told me about managing my personal finances when I was in my 20s. 1. Pay down any high interest credit card debt and don’t put anything on your credit card. You can’t pay off at the end of the month. 2. Pay yourself first. Build your budget around your saving goals and transfer that money into your savings accounts immediately. 3. Start saving for your retirement and emergency fund immediately! There is a part of our brain that is constantly looking for threats. It’s why we get anxious and angry sometimes over little things that don’t really matter.
