Mother And Son

For Parents of

Young Adults

You raised them, you love them, and right now — you're watching them flounder. Maybe they're stuck, anxious, unmotivated, or making choices that scare you. You don't know whether to step in or step back. And the harder you try, the more they pull away.

You're not failing as a parent. This is one of the hardest transitions there is — for both of you.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Your adult child is struggling — with motivation, direction, anxiety, relationships, or just getting started — and nothing you say seems to help.

You lie awake wondering if you should intervene or give them space, and you're terrified of getting it wrong.

The kid who used to talk to you about everything now barely responds to your texts.

You've tried everything — advice, tough love, backing off — and none of it feels right.

You gave everything to your family and now you're quietly asking: what about me?

You see other young adults thriving and wonder what went wrong — even though you know that's not fair.

What Parents Are Saying

"As parents, we are deeply grateful for the impact Steve Walker has had on our son’s life. During his freshman year of college, our son struggled with the transition to dorm life, focus, organization, and coping with personal challenges. Steve provided practical strategies, consistent accountability, and tools that strengthened his academic performance, emotional resilience, and independence.

With our son's approval, he kept us appropriately informed so we could better support our son while respecting his growth. Under Steve’s guidance, our son also sought therapeutic support and became an advocate for his own development. He went on to earn four consecutive semesters on the Dean’s List and, more importantly, built habits and confidence that continue to serve him well. Integrity and Joy LLC was truly a game changer for our family."
Why I Work With Parents

I spent 25 years in education — including directing an innovative lab school — working directly with young people at every stage. I've coached teens, twentysomethings, and the parents trying to figure out how to help without pushing them away.

I also raised two daughters. I know what it's like to love someone fiercely and feel completely helpless at the same time.

Here's what I've learned: most parents don't need more advice. They need someone who understands what they're going through, who can help them see the situation clearly, and who can give them real tools — not platitudes — for navigating this stage.

That's what I do.

What We Work On Together

Understanding your young adult's world. This generation faces challenges that didn't exist when we were their age — economic uncertainty, social media pressure, a mental health crisis, and a culture that makes "finding yourself" feel both mandatory and impossible. I help you understand what they're actually dealing with so you can meet them where they are.

Finding the right balance. When do you step in? When do you step back? When do you set a boundary? When do you let them fail? These aren't easy questions, and the answers change depending on your kid. We work through them together.

Rebuilding the relationship. If communication has broken down, we figure out how to repair it — not with scripts or tricks, but with honest, values-driven approaches that rebuild trust over time.

Taking care of yourself. Parenting a struggling young adult is exhausting and isolating. You matter in this equation too. We make sure you're not losing yourself in the process.

Deciding next steps. Whether your young adult needs coaching themselves, therapy, a different living situation, or just time — I help you think through the options clearly and without panic.

What You Can Expect

After working together, parents typically:

  • Know better when to step in and when to step back — and feel confident in that judgment

  • Have real conversations with their kid again instead of walking on eggshells

  • Stop blaming themselves for their young adult's struggles

  • Set boundaries that are firm and loving, not controlling

  • Feel like themselves again — not just "so-and-so's worried parent"

  • Understand their young adult's challenges without minimizing or catastrophizing them

How It Works

Option 1: Parent Coaching (1:1)

We work together privately to help you navigate your specific situation. Sessions are tailored to your family, your kid, and your goals. This is ideal if your situation is complex or you want focused, confidential support.

Option 2: Coaching for Your Young Adult

If your young adult is open to it, I also work directly with young people ages 18-30 on finding direction, building confidence, managing anxiety, and creating a life they're actually proud of. Many parents start with their own coaching and then refer their son or daughter to work with me separately.

Option 3: Both

Some families benefit from both — parent coaching and young adult coaching running in parallel. I keep appropriate boundaries between the two while making sure the overall family dynamic is moving in a healthy direction.
