About

Hi, I’m Steve Walker — Integrity Coach, former U.S. diplomat, activist, educator, and lifelong student of what it means to live with purpose and principle.

Years ago, I walked away from a successful diplomatic career — because I refused to compromise my integrity. That decision taught me how hard (and how freeing) it is to stay true to yourself when everything’s on the line.

Today, I help people align their lives with what really matters — through transformational coaching, Integrity Circles, meditation teaching, and writing. I specialize in helping people navigate life transitions, strengthen relationships, and lead with authenticity.

My work has been featured on PBS NewsHour and CBS This Morning, and I’ve written for The New York Times and The Washington Post. I’ve also taught, spoken, and advocated on issues of justice, education, and personal growth around the world.

Whether through coaching, teaching, or storytelling, my mission is the same:

To help people live and lead with integrity, joy, and love — even when it’s hard.

Conflict and Difficult Conversations
What nine months of silence taught me about conflict — and connection STEVE WALKER MAY 07, 2026 When I was fourteen, my father and I had a serious conflict. I don’t need to go into the details. What matters is what happened after: I stopped talking to him. For nine months, I gave him silence. At the time, the silence felt like control. Safety. Independence. Necessary. When it was over — my mother finally begged me to talk to him and I did — it wasn’t because anything had been resolved. It was...

Grief — What Nobody Tells You
On love, loss, and the permission we never got to feel it STEVE WALKER APR 27, 2026 I was twelve years old when the phone rang just before Christmas, 1975. My dad was on his way back from a business trip. I don’t know how I knew, but I knew. Grampy was dead. My grandfather had been my best friend in a childhood full of loneliness and moving around. He took me fishing. He took me to my first Red Sox game. He was larger than life to the whole family — funny as hell, the kind of person who fills...

What Is Mindfulness? Radical Presence and Acceptance in an Uncertain World
April 20, 2026 Why the most important skill you can build has nothing to do with emptying your mind I was fifteen years old when Rocky DiRico, my sensei, first taught me to meditate. I was studying the martial arts, and early on Rocky introduced meditation as a core part of the practice. I worried it would be almost impossible — how do you quiet your mind and just focus on your breathing? Sure enough, like most people, I found it really challenging. Thoughts kept intruding. My mind wandered...
